Mad Men Directors Need to See This!!

We have a wonderful independent movie theatre in Tulsa.
It is the Circle Cinema.
This small theatre brings big stuff to Tulsa.
My family has met one of the subjects
from the movie, Lost Boys of Sudan.
The boy of the cover is the one we got to meet.
I still tear up thinking how that man gave up
so much to become so much for his
country.
We live in a country of selfishness.
If we are given the chance to be a professional
soccer player or a doctor....which do you think
most Americans will do?
I believe most will go for the BIG BUCKS and NOTORIETY
and be the professional soccer player.
I highly suggest you get this movie, it will change your life.

We also got to meet 2 Holocaust survivors.
I cried when I met them after seeing the movie.
I can honestly say that 2 of the top 10 experiences
in my life happened at the Circle Cinema.

The theatre is trying to expand and make a state of
the art theatre for the community to enjoy.
It is my understanding that they
are also having the original silent movie
organ restored.

To help with the fundraising efforts, they
had a special event.
They hosted a vintage fashion show through
the decades from the 20s thru the 2000s.

After the fashion show which included
awesome food from local
restaurants, each guest
was invited to a special
screening of
Vidal Sassoon, The Movie.

I was asked to take the pictures for
the event.....I tried to act
cool....but I think I might have s'queed!
Vintage + Photography = EXCITEMENT!!!

The models were awesome and looked
as if each one was meant for that
specific era!

He is not a model...he is a worker...but
doesn't he look AMAZING?

Most of the clothes were supplied
by a local store, Silver Screen Vintage.
This is Sheila, the owner of the shop.

Here are some of her outfits and some of the models.

This girl should be packaged and sold she
was that CUTE in a 1920s swimsuit!!!

I like the paradox of this photo.
1950s classic woman and a TATTOO.

I had a wonderful time at this event.
I hope that this encourages you to seek
out independent places and support them.
Small business America has to make
a come back!

SCORE! I Got an Amazing Lampshade....LOOK!

This lampshade was found online for $45.....
It is a 1950s lampshade

This lampshade was found at a local antique/flea market for $2.00!
She didn't even have it where a person could see it.....I had to DIG and find it.
The actual lamp is TOTAL MARBLE BABY....I got it for $16.00 at an antique store.
I actually got TWO of them.

See all the glorious fiberglass??
Isn't she awesome!

Up close and personal.....sigh.....
$2.00....yes, the whole lamp is $18.00!
I think I have developed a lamp fetish.....UH OH!!

Vintage Finger Wave, Vintage Show, Vintage Material...SQUEAL!

It just so happened that my hair appointment fell the day before the Vintage Tulsa Show. My hairdresser, had some spare time to play with a finger wave on my hair. I have been talking to her about this for at least a year.
Then while I was flipping through her very modern hairstyle books....THERE IT WAS!!
The finger wave is all over the place!
So, she decided to give it the ol' beauty school try....
Ignore the dorky look....I am no good at taking pictures of myself...
I just don't know how those teens can stand to do this.
Yah, after taking this picture and looking at it on the computer....
I ran and emptied that trash.
That is certainly the upside of doing a blog...you get to see
yourself and your surrounding through "different" eyes.

I was really surprised to find that my manly man liked this style....
He never ceases to amaze me.

Here is the back...the color is darker than normal, but it stays that
way for about a week then the colors I love will come out.
I have a lot of people ask about my hair color...
My system is....
I do an all over color every other trip to beauty shop.
The in between trips...I get 2 - 3 colors foiled in.
I have no method to my colors I choose...I am even
trying to get up enough nerve to go LUCY red.
I feel like I only have one life...why limit the colors?

I. Want. This.
I just didn't have $95.00 for it....sniff, sniff.

I. still. want. this.

I think I shall learn to sew well enough to make this....IN PLUS SIZE, not BARBIE size....sheesh, it must have been a ZERO.

My sister, Terri, looking at vintage tablecloths.

Vintage cards galore!!!

Wouldn't these be adorable in a kitchen???

Now....here is my day old hair!
I liked it better the next day.
Also, this is my 2nd dress!
I used vintage material...$2.00/4 yards.
LOVE IT!
This dress cost only $5.00 to make!!!
The sign is from the Vintage Show....$25.00!
Won't it go great in my dining area????
That's my fire pit in the background!
The next Vintage Tulsa Show is August 7th & 8th....want to go with me???

A Little Thriftin' Brings Simple Summer Joys!

This picture is for the college girl...
I thought she would like this dress and I can't show it
to her unless I post it on her Facebook page or on my blog.
I decided on the blog because...well, I haven't posted
in awhile.
I love the extremely retro look of the dress....please note that the model is suffering from a massive sunburn from the holiday weekend. I honestly think the sunscreen companies are putting less protection in their products, because if we don't reapply every HOUR, we get burned. Has anyone else noticed this?
Back to the dress, can't you just see a cute little can-can under it???
Add a cute pair of white sandals...some very retro sunglasses...oh why wasn't it in my size....sigh...
Anyhow, a college gal who enjoys dresses would really love this and could pull
off the look and not look weird....I know she could.
The dress was a whopping $2.00 and it is HOMEMADE!

This beautiful basket was $3.50!
Won't this make a wonderful market basket?
The handle is very sturdy and thick....I can load this baby up and
no problems!
Say "HI" to Daisy Doodle! For some reason, she is so much less camera shy
since I've started blogging.....

Get ready....Here is the next item....
Here is the PURPLE RIBBON of BARGAINS!!
A malt machine!! I made a very quick run through a thrift store
that is mostly clothes....one thing I've learned about thrifting is be consistent
about going to them so you can spot something new when it comes in.
I stopped and automatically hit the shelves that are around the perimeter of the room.
As I walked toward the shelf, I noticed something yellow.....way to the back of a shelf. I got closer....
I bent down....
Ok, I actually got on one knee...
I moved three bulky items....
It was then, that I heard the chorus of angels...really, I did....
they had music playing on the radio....
IT WAS A MALT MAKER!!!
Either I let out a little squeal or someone stepped on a squeaky toy!

It isn't a heavy duty one...not like the ones in the restaurants....but it is YELLOW and retro.....HAVE YOU SEEN MY KITCHEN??? It is YELLOW and RETRO!!
I plugged it in to make sure I wasn't getting excited over nothing.....
It took a bit to figure out the safety feature on it....then it WHIRRRRRRED.
WOOHOOOOO!

Soooo, I did the next expected thing.....
I TWEETED & FACEBOOKED about my FIND!
When my friend, Brownie, who has been looking for one also found out....
she text me and said.....and I quote, "I HATE YOU."
Yes, my friends....sometimes finding a bargain means you have to
lose some friendships!
Seriously, all was made good, when Mr. Manly Man made some after dinner shakes! Did I mention that "hates me now" friend is lactose intolerant???
Also, I think we found her one on Craigslist for $10.00 if I hear back from them...
Malt Maker....$3.00!!

I have a feeling I had better keep an ample supply of ice cream around this summer....He is the MASTER of the MALT SHOPPE!!

Even "SUNBURNED" gal said it cooled the burning.... :)

Vintage Tulsa Show...Look at the Goodies!!!

I know, you think he looks like Santa, right?
Well, he IS Santa!
He is THE Santa in the Dallas Christmas Parade!
He sold my sister a ring only because he checked his list twice....
This was supposed to be a picture of a really cute hat...
When I went back to take a picture and possibly buy the hat...
IT WAS GONE.... :'(

Love, Love, LOVE this couch!!
$245.00....oh wish I had the money!

Giant Beverly Hillbillies toy....look at the lunchboxes to compare the size.

Can you guess who these are?

I really wanted this dress too....instead I bought a strapless wedding dress for Sydni to take some more pics in.....oh to sacrifice for my children....

Yep, thought this looked smashing with my rootin' tootin' boots!!!
I'm afraid to think of what the guy behind me was thinking....

Oh! Did you say you wanted to see my boots?

Look at the stuff in this booth!!!

Yah! So the dog didn't like me very much....
DEMON DOG!

I could make some fancy shmancy malts with one of these things...

Terri found a quilt...really, I was trying to get a picture of the TABLE...oh that glorious table....Terri just happened to get in the way....

I am a fan of vintage fans THAT WORK!!!
I have an awesome yellow one that I got at this show!

I really think this lady had some of the best prices at her booth.
Some of the booths were way out of my league, but overall, they were
really reasonable.

Yep, can you see my drool stains on that pew?
I think that baby picture of Northern Toilet Paper babies would
look awesome over a crib!

Thanks for stopping by to see the Tulsa Vintage Show tour....
They have a Facebook page if you want to know more about it.
