Vintage Thingie Thursday

Below is a picture of my husband's parents, Charles and Bonnie, at one of their proms.
I'm sure I'll get the year as soon as Charles aka FIL reads this....because he
is my #1 fan don't you know.
I'm guessing it is 1955 since she is one year older than him and I'm not sure if
he could have taken her to his prom seeing that she had already graduated....I know they'll correct me if I'm wrong.
Can you guess which couple are the proud in-laws of ME?
Ok, did you guess correctly?
And did you happen to notice that I'm getting better with the PAINT program?
I didn't have the little goof up white box.....I even used COLOR...I think of pink when I
think of 50's proms....do you?
I wonder what they would think if they attended a prom today.
Look, do you see any plastic there? I think NOT!!!
They even had LIGHTED candles....I think nowadays, that
would encourage a FIRE or something....then a lawsuit...sort of
like the HOT COFFEE and McDonald's incident.
"Well, YOU NEVER SAID IT WAS HOT!!"

This post is for VINTAGE THINGIE THURSDAY, hosted by COLORADO LADY.
Make sure you head on over and check out other vintage posts.

This is a great pic...the pictures of my in-laws are hilarious! My mother-in-law looks the same (with shorter hair :o) but my father-in-law had shoulder-length or longer hair! It is SO short now - and has been for many years...oh well. Those were the 70s! LOL!

lol That was around MY time--my prom was in 1958. Notice that the guys wore regular suits, not tuxedoes, and that the gals all had something like a piece of netting to place over their shoulders. We also did our own hair and nails. Chances are that table was set up in the gym. Our prom was held in our gym, but we did go to a restaurant aferwards featuring the Everly Brothers.

I didn't start going to proms until about seven or eight years after your photo, but they looked pretty much the same in my era. Gosh, I remember all that nylon net and all those ruffles, and how hard it was to sit down in all that frou-frou! Great picture!

Things were definitely simpler back then. I love looking at wedding photos from the 50's because many women just wore a suit and corsage. Eighteen years ago, my bro-in-law and wife spent $40,000 on their wedding and honeymoon! My dh and I spent $3,000 total. We're still married, they're not.

The 50's where a great era. I graduated in '61. But I remember in the 9th grade my favorite outfit was a pink sweater with a grey button up shirt and dark gray skirt.( back then we worn short sleeve seaters under out blouses or shirts. Loved the 50's.
Thanks for the memories. Your mother in law was very pretty.

Aaaaahhhhh, that's so sweet! I could pick out Bonnie immediately with that big grin! Aren't they adorable?? I love old pics like this. I have some of my grandparents that I just love of Papaw in his army uniform and Mamaw in her cute little totally trendy 50's attire, they look like 50's models to me and so different from the people I know. It's kind of weird to think of them ever being my age!
